New England Aster.

New England Aster height is anywhere from 3 to 7 feet. It blooms late summer and fall - August to October.

New England Aster is a Host Plant for the Pearl Crescent

Pearl Crescents use New England and other asters as a host plant. New England Asters are also great nectar source for many butterflies.

Where to buy New England Aster

I highly recommend Nature Hills Nursery for an online source. Their perennials cost a bit more but they are grown in 4'' x 6'' air-pruned pots that results in healthier plants with a highly developed root mass! The price is reduced however, if you buy more plants. You can also sign up to have a seed and plant catalog from Nature Hills Nursery mailed to your home to order from them.

Nature Hills sells three different varieties of New England Asters. You can read more information about these varieties on the Nature Hills Nursery site to either order, read more detailed information about this plant or see more detailed pricing information. Or order by calling 1-888-864-7663 using the Source ID: 86642:

Aster novae-angliae 'Purple Dome'
Aster novae-belgii 'Professor Kippenburg'
Aster novae-angliae 'Alma Potschke'

The Aster Family

New England Aster is a member of the Aster Family. These are herbs, shrubs, vines or sometimes even trees. There are 20,000 different species in the Aster family, made up from 1100 genera. Well known members of this family include Sunflowers, Zinnias, safflower and many kinds of lettuce.

The color of the flowers from this plant can vary somewhat. Both of these flowers were growing from plants started from the same set of seeds.
